One of my favorite things about being a blog follower is how the experience goes from just following along to eventually feeling like you are taking advice from a friend. As a result of my love for blogs, I have purchased clothes, tried hair styles, decorated mantles, read books, organized my office, discovered health tricks, and become inspired in countless ways! Reading about a solution that an everyday person, just like me, finds enriching to their lives has been really helpful – so here on HALF I thought I would get in on the info sharing action and include a weekly favorites post! Each week I will share one of my favorites things! The topic areas will range from favorite clothes to organizing solutions to health tricks. Really anything that I feel we just can’t live without – or would really not want to – at the Bessette home and maybe you can find something you love too!
Tonight’s favorite thing was a little unplanned…..but quite appropriate following our date last night: professional hockey playoff games! Over the years we have been to MANY games – baseball, football, soccer, and of course hockey! Most of the time I can get on board with a good sporting event – especially when it involves sitting in the sun or some good eats! But true confession, sometimes I am just not into it. The has been known to lead to funky moods, getting lost in my phone, blatantly people watching – and worse of all, Danny’s discouragement of a sporty wife. Ok let’s be real honest, he ALWAYS knew a sporty wife was just not what he was getting with me – but a fun girl who can throw a few back and get into the game for a fun afternoon is his preference. However after a lot of trial and error I have determined that the best kind of hockey game for me?? Its PLAYOFFS!

My first playoff game was in the spring of 2008. I remember because it was my first year of working downtown. I jumped on the metro with the masses and headed over to China Town for the game. It was ELECTRIC! There was music, dancing, chanting, hooting and hollering amongst a sea of red. Everyone was so excited, the city felt alive and from that moment until the final siren sounded – it was pumping. One of my favorite things about being in the city is the hustle and bustle. Well a Capitals playoff game takes it to the next level!

Once in the game it is non-sotp fast pace hockey! Since every game counts towards the series outcome, it feels like each shot, every rebound, all the hits, and every single ref’s call will make or break the outcome of the whole season – the crowd is captivated the whole time. By the last few moments you are on your feet – literally feeling every swipe of a stick, while you hold your breath it makes it in the net…. it is a blast! That very first playoff night I said to Danny I was pretty sure that I would save all my future hockey attendance for playoffs only….. he agreed that sounded about right – the most expensive tickets would of course by my preference!

Last night we had a chance to go to game 5 of the Capitals versus the Flyers series. It was beautiful spring night as we shuffled into the stadium – a party of two in the sea of red! The game was 1 to 0 – Flyers from the second period until the last few minutes when it switched 0 to 2… so you can pretty much guess we were eyes glued to the ice, jumping out our seats at anything resembling a potential score….sadly it did not help any, but it did make for an awesome game experience. Its true – playoff hockey is the best!!

Now this is the time where I normally would share how you too can pick up this purse, try out this shoe, or read this book…..but attending this sort of event is a little more tricky, and a heck of a lot more expensive. Early years, playoff tickets were more expensive, but not break the bank, eat cereal for a week expensive (unless you got the reallllllly good seats), in DC, but these days it is a heck of a lot more! Danny has been able to attend 2 this series and I have attended for 1 – all through gifted tickets. So we have been lucky. To attend without a gifted ticket – I have no idea how to even do that without breaking open the piggy bank! So let’s just say – if given the chance…. I highly recommend playoff hockey! Go Caps!

Thank you for reading and remember to make it a great day!
