As you all know Bishop O’Connell High School LINK holds a very special place in our hearts. The reasons vary and are many: what we experienced there, the friends we made there, the mentors we found there, the faith foundation we built there, the lessons we learned there, the quality students it develops there… we met each other there. Still today it is a big part of our world as Danny is a hockey coach there, I still serve as an alumni there, and our families are big fans too. It is a special place that transformed the course of our lives. This time of year however it means just a little bit more….. SUPERDANCE season.

Now of course we are eternally grateful for this 12 hour dance-a-thon that in its 44 years has raise over 4.3 million to dollars for Cystic Fibrosis – but that dance means even more to us. It is rare thing in this world of self centered, phone focused, wifi dependent humans to come across a “good old fashion” practice that is still hugely popular. And that barely scratches the surface of the momentum it creates in our communities (CF and O’Connell). The whole O’Connell family rallies behind this incredible effort. High schoolers that are prone to clicks and judgmental behaviors seem to leave all of that outside the bubble of SUPERDANCE. Every single person who wants it has a role, can find their niche, and have a way of making their mark on SUPERDANCE. And it has been that way since day one…. part of the beautiful tradition.

This dance is so impressive because it is put on almost exclusively by the kids, it is a passion project of anyone who has ever walked those halls, and it is a lot of work that year after year is just as incredible as the last. Danny and I were big participants – especially as Juniors and Seniors – and it is some of our most cherished memories from High School. This experience changes lives and not just that of CF patients -but of those kids who choose to really get involved. To make this 12 hour event happen the kids have to learn about peer and event management, how to fundraise, how to coach and motivate, and how to take an important message and get it out to the whole world. The experience of SUPERDANCE was one of the best teachers I had during high school and I still use skills discovered while putting on that dance in my life today!

March 2016
If you have some time this weekend, please take a look here and learn more about the SUPERDANCE while the school dances. We really want to support these kiddos who have done, yet again, an amazing job! And of course this season of our world we are reminded of the need for a cure for CF…. so we truly do want to thank the students for their fight against this disease that still needs a cure and fast. If you are interested in donating, you can do so here.
Thank you so much for reading and remember to make it a great day!
