Well despite the heat of today we are heading into the fall season, which points out all the fall stuff from last year that I have not had a chance to save on the blog. So on this day when Starbucks is launching its Pumpkin Spice Latte for the 2018 season – we are looking back at a few of my favorite memories from last fall.
Last October we celebrate Dad turning 60! The main gift was a weekend away in Charlottesville area with my mom as they dream of retirement and visited my sister Bridget. That meant us locals had Sunday night to get ourselves organized and plan a little party.
After a few different ideas being thrown around. As our family grows, food preferences change and we add littles to the group an easy restaurant or menu consensus has required a bit of creativity… so we landed on “World’s Best Dad” with a global menu!
Starting with a few of his favorites: German Chocolate Cake and Chinese food….. we added a few more stops on the globe: Corona’s from Mexico, French onion dip and some Sam Adams from the good ole US of A! Mostly it was just a fun night that we got to celebrate my Dad and enjoy the greatest gift he has given us all: family.
Our fall also brings with it a beautiful charity event each year: the Luv U Project LINK. To honor the beautiful memory of a good family friend, Carolyn Mattingly, her family has started a foundation that seeks to help in the area of mental health.
For so many of us a loss like this and the desire to make a difference all mixed up together would be just too overwhelming. But for the Mattingly family who have given their lives to the betterment of other communities (including how we know them – the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) – this is what they do. Make those facing situations full of hopelessness find a way to fight through in the name of progress. This annual gala is a chance to show support, learn of the various ways they are diving into such a big and vital topic, and a chance to visit with other special friends from the CF community who have come out to support this new effort. We had a wonderful night and are honored to be included in this important foundation. Take a look and if it is on your heart to give, please do so!
As we look back a little on 2017 and 2018 on the blog there will be some really fun posts about my sister Katy’s wedding this past January. The Heppes girls are so blessed with a family who really knows how to celebrate a wedding with a bunch of fun memory making moments, including a bridal lunch (usually with a twist). So my bridal luncheon was a tea the day of our rehearsal dinner with my bridesmaids. But just like sisters, weddings can vary in style and feel and Katy had just Bridget and I as her bridesmaids, so for her luncheon she did a Friendsgiving with all her best gal pals.
Just like we choose to have Katy’s bridal shower be a Fall in Love theme – for my sister who loves some pumpkin spice and the cozy of fall – this Friendsgiving Lunch where she was able to shower her gals with some serious gratitude as she prepares to say I Do was just so perfectly her! Thank you Katy for including me (so sad Bridget missed it away at school) and this was only the begging of an awesome wedding experience! Stay tuned…. after my summer wedding, I learned a lot of fun stuff about a winter wedding wonderland!
And finally this fall brought our home two fun gatherings for my sister’s bridal shower and Danny’s birthday/1 year Lungiversary- so our halls were DECKED with all things fall. It is getting me so excited for this year! Even though we won’t have a coffee bar up for the season, there will be plenty of fall foliage and cozy additions to welcome one of the most beautiful seasons in the DC/VA area! Until the new pictures …. enjoy a little of 2017!
Thank you so much for reading and remember to make it a great day!
