A series I am very excited to start up this year on HALF is DC Living! Danny and I grew in Northern Virginia- outside DC and much of our childhoods, then dating and married life have included this special city… and now we want to share a little piece of that life here!
The chilly month of January doesn’t always seem like the best time to be exploring the city…. but my sister actually came up with the perfect winter activity for getting on your sweater dress, winter boats, and pretty coats: a tea party! For Bridget’s 9th birthday we had tea at the Willard hotel, so when we were trying to think of a way to celebrate her 20th she suggested a repeat event. With that in mind, we decided to try something a little different this year and made a reservation at the Fairmont hotel in Georgetown.

It was the picture perfect January Sunday afternoon: chilly… a little cloudy…. even a lite drizzle with ice….this meant a hot cup of tea and little treats in a cozy setting was just perfect! The setting was so pretty with views of a courtyard and Georgetown life bustling by. And I loved that the hotel had a modern feel, but the tea’s setting had the perfect touch of tradition with gorgeous floral tea set.

When reviewing the menu we read a description of lovely tea sandwiches, tasty little sweeties (as my grandma would say) , and a unique variety of teas to try – a lovely little snack to accompany your cup of tea. But what we found when we got there: an option for Champagne and your own little boxed lunch! Not only was it so cute, but the lunch was very filling! Usually a little “bonus” of tea is that you feel extra lady like for just having lots of little tastes… but you never are very full. That was not the case with the Fairmont hotel – we walked back away stuffed…..in the most lady like way (sorta)!!

So if you are looking for a fun winter activity to see the city and enjoy a little treat I would encourage you to look into a ladies tea! And if you happen to be in our Nation’s Capital – check out the Fairmont Hotel Tea or the Willard or for a country feel Leesburg, Virginia has a variety of cute little spots. We laughed a lot, enjoyed catching up on all the things, warmed up with some hot tea…. letting the afternoon linger away in this quiet little oasis. If you are ready to escape into the winter’s day – try a tea time in DC!
