These Are A Few of My Favorite Things

One of my favorite things about being a blog follower is how the experience goes from just following along to eventually feeling like you are taking advice from a friend. As a result of my love for blogs, I have purchased clothes, tried hair styles, decorated mantles, read books, organized my office, discovered health tricks, and become inspired in countless ways! Reading about a solution that an everyday person, just like me, finds enriching to their lives has been really helpful – so here on HALF I thought I would get in on the info sharing action and include a weekly favorites post! Each week I will share one of my favorites things! The topic areas will range from favorite clothes to organizing solutions to health tricks. Really anything that I feel we just can’t live without – or would really not want to – at the Bessette home and maybe you can find something you love too!

This week, while on a business trip and then wedding weekend away, I decided to feature a favorite thing you can almost always find in my traveling bags – Real Simple Magazine. And let me define traveling bags for you – this could be my carry on bag that has all my inflight entertainment, or my “things to do” bag that you can pretty much find in my car on any given day I am out and about. Magazines are an escape for me – even though I love blog reading and think the fact that Kindle allows me to carry around a bunch of books at once is pretty AWESOME, nothing quite compares to a brand new, crisp, colorful magazine. It was ALWAYS one of my favorite things to do when flying – the world can’t reach you and its just you, a beverage and your magazine. For many years I loved US Weekly, People, InStyle, and I defiently still read these from time to time – but my favorite is Real Simple.

When I was first starting my career in DC, one of my best gal pals, Libby, gifted me a Real Simple Magazine subscription. It came in very handy since I had pretty much fallen out of love with my metro commuting and needed a reason to escape and ignore the fact that a man was trying to brush his teeth next to me while on the train (true story – and no I don’t know where he rinsed everything out – I just prayed it wasn’t near me and stared straight ahead). This magazine was the solution!

Each month I am totally enthralled in my magazine and completely forgot about my surroundings. Ways to be organized, life tricks for relationships, how to destress, great recipes (that I could easily share with Danny 😃 ), all with gorgeous pictures that showed everyday life with just the most beautiful details – this publication spoke my love language.

Over the last year I have really made an effort to read more and so I renewed my Real Simple subscription. Now I count on a little time every weekend to grab a cup of coffee, curl up with a blanket or lay out in the sun and read my magazine. So if you are looking for a little escape that inspires creativity, increases organization, and gets you thinking about a wider variety of topics – beyond what crazy hollywood couple is having a social media war – I highly recommend Real Simple Magazine. Happy reading!
