Have A Little Faith in We

This year we did our word choice as a family of 3 (well Oliver too, but he did not have anything to share).

After a season of doing life splintered…. then a season of timid together … we are starting this new year in a season of connected. And to start was New Years and new word selection.

Danny and I explained to Shannon that you can choose a word that will be what you want 2025 to be. While sharing some knowing looks between us that you can’t really predict it. In fact our life more accurately described as “if you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans”. But we still wanted to instill in her, and ourselves, the practice of planning or goal setting or just plan dreaming. Feeling this special life lesson momentum building, we shared a bunch of ideas: brave, happy, hope, excited….

Then we shared what we thought would be ours:

• Mommy: purpose or focus
• Daddy: grit or perseverance

And finally let Shannon decide. She thought and thought and what popped out confidently? “My word is mystery.”

As they say, from the mouths of babes. Isn’t that the dang truth? Mystery. Well yes… and reflecting back on 2024, none of us three had any idea that a January 2024 hospital visit would by the catalyst to a lot of change. There was no way to hold what a new house… a new school…. and a new world would bring and how a part of the old world would come along too. It was a mystery, just like 2025 is too.

Maybe, jsut maybe she got the lesson or maybe she was actually teaching us?

Cheers to the mysteries ahead and the ones that have found there way already.
