One of my favorite things about being a blog follower is how the experience goes from just following along to eventually feeling like you are taking advice from a friend. As a result of my love for blogs, I have purchased clothes, tried hair styles, decorated mantles, read books, organized my office, discovered health tricks, and become inspired in countless ways! Reading about a solution that an everyday person, just like me, finds enriching to their lives has been really helpful – so here on HALF I thought I would get in on the info sharing action and include a weekly favorites post! Each week I will share one of my favorites things! The topic areas will range from favorite clothes to organizing solutions even some health tricks. Really anything that we just can’t live without – or would really not want to – at the Bessette home and maybe you can find something you love too!
Happy Friday Friends! Today I am coming at you with one of my 2019 summer must haves: the t-shirt dress. Ya’ll I LOVE this trend. In the summer I am not much of a shorts person unless I am running. And the maxi skirt is a classic, but sometimes – especially in this DC heat – they just feel like too much material. So I often find myself enjoying a short summer dress or skirt combo – but it can be hard to find one that you can wear to the pool or talking a family walk that doesn’t look like you should be getting ready for a date or going to brunch. But not this season friends, this season the t-shirt dress is EVERYWHERE.
My mother in law introduced me to stitch fix and often for holidays or special occasions she will give me a gift card. Contrary to my normal spender behavior, I really like to save these and stock up before the start of each season. The boxes help me really find that seasons trends that match my style and get me motivated to clean out my own closet for the new weather ahead. For summer I was convinced I needed to find something beyond my preferred maxi dress just to assure I would have a few more go to pieces in my closet that match our current lifestyle. Which is a little unique because a Saturday can start out with a coffee run and dog walk – but end up on the couch with a movie or cleaning out the closet. Yet the next Saturday we were planning to be lazy, but heard there is a fun event at a local brewery and we want to get there ASAP before the heat of midday is too much – so I have like 10 minutes to get ready. Unfortunately the Stitch Fix stylist description box isn’t quite big enough for all my scenarios – so I took to Pinterest to try and find what it is I was looking for…. and I found it in about 2 seconds flat: the t-shirt dress. Easy, breezy, can be dressed up, dressed down, looks good with heels, flip flops or tennis shoes.
Well I got one in my box and I lived in for days….. so suddenly I was on a mission to find some more. I started with a few lower budget options and they were OK but often the material felt a little too tight or short. The ones I tended to pay a little more for (even though as Danny put it I was basically spending high dollar on what looked like a night gown – its hard to be married to a fashionista), fit better, wore better, were less hot and wash the best. LUCKILY late on Friday evening while scrolling I ran into a “buy 1 – get 1 FREE” sale at JCrew and they have AWESOME t-shirt dress (I don’t see mine anymore but an option is this one). I snagged two and I am here to report – I love them, I live in them and ya’ll I would pay full price for them.
One of the beauties for summer is the lack of schedule, the feeling of easy breezy and that a weekend can have no plans or FULL plans in a matter of seconds. But for me to really embrace the ease of the season, I tend to do better if I have easy things to throw on. And truly as vein as that may sound – it actually has played a big role in our home life. If Dan says let’s run to lunch and I can do so in a matter of minutes it starts our whole date off on the right foot. If I have to go upstairs, try on 10 things, get annoyed at my closet, bark at my husband for the 10th time “I am coming” ( in a super annoyed manner, when the truth is I am the one taking forever) it just throws us off. Winter time – we all tend to get it, putting on boots and coats and hats – its expected to take some time. But easy breezy summer…. ya’ll embrace it with all you got cause it comes and goes so quickly! So there is my favorite for you: the perfect t-shirt dress! Try it and I promise you will be in love.
