These are a Few of My Favorite Things

One of my favorite things about being a blog follower is how the experience goes from just following along to eventually feeling like you are taking advice from a friend. As a result of my love for blogs, I have purchased clothes, tried hair styles, decorated mantles, read books, organized my office, discovered health tricks, and become inspired in countless ways! Reading about a solution that an everyday person, just like me, finds enriching to their lives has been really helpful – so here on HALF I thought I would get in on the info sharing action and include a weekly favorites post! Each week I will share one of my favorites things! The topic areas will range from favorite clothes to organizing solutions to health tricks. Really anything that I feel we just can’t live without – or would really not want to – at the Bessette home and maybe you can find something you love too!

This week the official first day of summer made a debut! And this year we have some fun travel plans, a long list of summer things to do, house projects we are talking over, and dreams of long days that fade into quiet nights with a big stack of summer reading to devour! With all this fun to be had, clearly there is only limited time for being lazy on the couch, but still there is a list of movies that we always find time for during the summer season. For today’s favorite I am sharing the list:

Jaws
This was a summer must for Danny. He has grown up going to Cape Cod in the summer time and has always enjoyed the treasures under the sea (aquariums are a favorite thing to do), making this movie the perfect mix! Plus you can’t beat the outfits and 70s everything…..especially since a lot of Cape Cod is a museum to that era. The shark is a little mean, but the movie is a winner!

How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days
Yes, yes – there are gonna be a few rom-coms that make this list…. but I love this one especially because of the summertime season in New York! I love watching the spring slip into a summer in this film while following the young and fun crowd run their way around the city. Looking for a little fun and silly movie escape: pop on Netflix and select Miss Kate Hudson’s fun flick!

How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days

The Sandlot
This is a movie about a bunch of baseball playing kiddos from 60s who spend their summer on a diamond telling tall tales of baseball players, stumbling over girls, honoring childhood traditions, and retelling of a a few ghost stories! This movie the Heppes all loved because it felt like a peak into my Dad’s childhood. Then Danny came on the scene and we discovered this was a favorite for us both. So it ain’t summer if we don’t honor this family tradition.

The Break Up
Ok so this movie seems to be one folks either love or hate. Its the story of a couple’s break up but is filled with a great cast, hilarious lines, and very relatable moments. So why a summer movie you may wonder? Well it features summer in Chicago and I LOVE Chicago. I always wondered if I would call it home one day…. but so far no luck. So instead, I am just watching this movie and remembering the best time of year to head to the windy season (and next week we will!!) is summer!

The Break-Up

Something Borrowed
Yup – another Romantic movie set in New York that gives me all the happy feels! But the reason for loving this one so much is actually because I loved the book series! One summer my gal pal Libby gave me a copy of Something Blue. It was an airport pick that she loved and passed along…. but it was actually part of a series that was pretty popular at the time. Yet somehow we seemed to be the only two who read it in reverse order, which influences the way you feel about the characters. Long story short, I loved the series, I loved reading it in a different order than the rest of the world, and I love a movie that reminds you of the fun that arrives with summertime, through both fun reads and on the silver screen!

The Notebook
And speaking of books that become movies…… you knew this one was coming for sure! It is a great love story, it comes from one of my favorite authors, and it is set on the beaches of North Carolina…. doesn’t get more summer than that?!?!? But I also have the added appreciation for it because we grew up not only going to the beach in North Carolina, but my cousins are from New Bern, where the author is from and often a place his stories take a journey through! Many of my childhood summers included a visit to this small Carolina town and the Notebook always helps me remember why. This is a movie I introduced Dan too (a rare occurrence) and even he had to admit that it was a great story!

Hitch
Who doesn’t love a movie that has Will Smith? The answer: no one! And this really cute movie doesn’t miss an item on my checklist: good cast, set in New York, told in the middle of the summer…. but the true reason this one will forever be a summer watch? It came out right as Danny and I started dating. One night I was nannying for a family and watched it with the kids. I had been avoiding Dan’s calls and thinking that we had so much fun, but I couldn’t keep dating someone I knew from high school. But all the little adventures Hitch believes are fun way to fall in love in the movie, reminded me of our dates. So I figured if nothing else, but for a few fun adventures and a little summer romance, I would finally call Dan back. 12 years later….. I still love this movie!

Fever Pitch
For our final featured film, the story that resembles my own life…. Fever Pitch! Girl loves boy and boy loves BASEBALL! This is such a cute story of how a girl falls in love with a boy who is crazy for his Soxs ….. and yet she knows nothing about baseball. I like to consider myself enough baseball savvy and I grew up an Orioles fan so Danny did not have a lot explaining to do, but the similarities in the level of baseball obsession between Danny and Jimmy Fallon is hard to ignore! Mix in that it is set in the summer time and takes place in Boston – a place we have found ourselves in via Cape Cod a few summers – and this movie just shouts: summer is here!

Fever Pitch Movie

So there you have it – these are some of summer time must watches! What summertime movies do you enjoy? Have you ever tried to make movie watching a bit more of a summertime activity? Sometimes we take the TV out in the garden and have a backyard movie fest! We LOVE summertime and are looking forward to all the fun to be had….. including a few movie moments!

Thanks so much for reading and remember to make it a great day!
Jackie
